SharePoint Document Management for Manufacturing: What It Actually Takes to Get Right

Ask a plant manager or quality lead where their documents actually live, and you rarely get a clean answer. Engineering drawings sit in one drive. Supplier certifications come in over email. The current BOM revision is “probably” the one in the shared folder, but nobody’s fully sure. SharePoint is often already there in the background, licensed and running, and mostly unused for anything beyond storing files nobody can find.

Why manufacturing documents are harder to manage than most

A typical manufacturing document workflow touches more people and more risk than most office paperwork. Vendors need somewhere to drop certifications and reports, and you need to see what they’ve submitted, without giving them a login into systems that have nothing to do with them.
